I’ve written, erased, rewritten, edited and finally scrapped about five different versions of tonight’s post. Obviously I’ve had trouble expressing myself. Basically, work is not what I expected. I’ve defeated the odds. But not in a good way. In a bad way. I’ve talked to at least 400 if not 500 people. I haven’t made [...] …how I feel about cold calling customers to sell them termite protection plans at 10:30 at night. *I need a new cameraphone. Our training class “graduated” today. Tomorrow, the 21 of us are full-time employees let loose on Terminix’s nationwide customer base. We’ll sell termite protection plans until we’re blue in the face. And then we’ll go home and say a eulogy for the little chunk of our short time on earth that we lost that [...] I saw this sunset when I walked out of training (an hour early, no less). I can get used to THAT. Man, Memphis has been pretty the past few days. Anyway, how do I feel about my first day of work? Sometimes I look at photos I’ve taken of myself and think I aged a decade in two years. It’s the last day of January. On one hand, I’ve had a good month. I lost some weight. I did some fun stuff. I saw my friends more often. I cleaned the house more often. I got a [...] First off, Happy Birthday Dad! I love you. Second off, the job offer came through. You’re looking at one of the new Inside Sales Reps at Terminix. I start in a few weeks. Third off, this evening Leslie and I celebrated my new employment with a topically named shooter from the RP Tracks menu. I guess we [...] I went to a job fair this morning. I expected it to be like The Commercial Appeal’s job fairs, a zoo. I thought I’d be one of hundreds of folks filing past long rows of booths, picking up brochures by the stack, talking to recruiters and passing out resumes like they were on fire in [...] I think it went really well. I liked the company and my interviewers, and I really liked their description of the job. The title is Marketing Coordinator/Copywriter but it seems to encompass much more. Stuff like editing, design and project management of things I’ve done before (magazines, print ads, websites, newsletters) and new things (trade [...] Saturday’s weather was magnetic, clear and wholly sunny. No clouds, 100% blue light and warmth. But Mother Nature must have flipped her coin during the night. Sunday was also 100% and pure, but constant gray rain. Equally beautiful, the cloudy drizzle wasn’t so hospitable. Luckily, this darker day didn’t ruin my plans to enjoy nature [...] |
