Some days, particularly warm and sunny ones, I get an itch to walk to Black Lodge Video that just does not go away until I scratch it. Anyone who lives in Midtown, or really in all of Memphis, as far as I’m concerned, probably knows what a great video store this is. But for anyone who [...] Paul and Angela of From the Southern Table are pretty great. Not only are they friendly, interesting, food-loving, blog-writing, chicken-raising Midtowners, they also hooked me up with some freelance transcription work. I love transcribing their interviews. Typing what people say as they say it is one of my hidden talents, and something I unexpectedly miss [...] I thought I was going out of town this weekend to visit my new in-laws. Did I tell you my sister got married? Yep, on Monday October 26, she and Andrew up and got hitched at the courthouse all spur-of-the-moment-like and whirlwind. I found out about it on Facebook. Crazy, right? See, story is…they’ve been [...] Someone posted twitpics a few days ago of some beautiful artwork at Beignet Cafe by Michelle Duckworth. I fell in love with those little photos. Thinking that Beignet Cafe was in New Orleans (it is, but apparently a Beignet Cafe opened in downtown Memphis in April? Just now realizing this after some Googling. Wow I [...] Saturday night was the 5th Rocktoberfest, a Halloween party Patrick throws every year. Everyone dresses up as a musician and most will lip-sync (or actually sing, or dance, or rock out on guitar) a song by their musician. It’s like karaoke but better. This year’s costumes were incredible. Everyone totally brought it. I could never [...] Also called the “Chinese sub shop.” On Highland, this place is a staple for U of M students but somehow I never ate there. Had lunch for the first time here with Diana on Thursday when we went to The Fun Shop down the street to get a rasta wig for my Rocktoberfest costume. This [...] Are done. Whole set here.
